Today I am talking about nepotism. It is a practice of favoritism that has been going on since ancient times. This nepotism is in every field, from entertainment to politics and even religious institutions.
Let’s start. Have you heard of the Archies? Not the cards you buy but the comics, Archie Andrews, and friends. It is a cult following for many.
I am sure many of you must have grown up reading this, and many of you wanted to have a life like Archie, drinking milkshakes and hanging out with friends.
Is Bollywood a hub of nepotism?
The Bollywood industry is the home of nepotism, as the Kapoors, Khans, and Bhatts have dominated the Bollywood industry. Actors with no connection to Bollywood often face a big problem entering this field, while star kids find the platform and lead roles, whether they have the talent or not.

It is a topic of intense debate. Both the allegation of nepotism and the practice of nepotism have been around for quite some time now; the question is, is it just a Bollywood thing? What about other industries and walks of life?
What Exactly Is Nepotism?
Why is it a problem, and why should we care? If you look at human history, there is a thread that winds its way through empires, governments, and industries.
It is explained here Nepotism is the act of using your power or influence to obtain good jobs or unfair advantages for your family members. This is the dictionary definition.
Simply put, it is favoritism towards your loved ones. Recently, it has become a topic of intense debate that hatred towards it. It has become an industry in itself.
Nepo Babies Of Hollywood
One of the top trending hashtags on Instagram is Boycott Nepotism. NEW YORK magazine has called 2022 the year of the nepo baby. They even had a cover to go with it.
It features Hollywood nepo babies, so this isn’t just a Bollywood trend, and it’s not a new one either.
This word has its roots in the Catholic Church; in Latin, nepos roughly means nephew. POPE used to appoint his nephews to Cardinal positions.
This is how the word nepotism came about. How can we forget Charlie Chaplain? He was also a Nepo baby; his parents were famous British comedians, so I think this issue has been prevalent for a long time.
Nepotism In Politics
Look at India, where democracy came with dynastic politics; the Gandhi Nehru family is the prime example, and they are not the only ones to do so; if we look globally, every country has nepotism in politics as well.
How can we forget the Kennedy family and the Bush family, who ruled America for a long time, and how can we forget our neighboring country, Pakistan, where Bhutto ruled for many years. These are the families who maintain their power and have a lot of influence in the public.
Can Nepotism make you successful in life?
Life is not ideal, and in the real world, even people who have the ideal start fail and those who have no connections win.
So our two pieces about nepotism won’t get us anywhere; those who have the advantage, try not to waste it because you only get so many chances in life.
And those who don’t have the advantage, accept that you have to work hard instead of complaining and giving up. There are enough and more examples of people who have risen in the ranks without family support, so we say move on.
