As per research conducted at Harvard, which lasted for 85 years, it was also revealed that a person’s relationships are the number one contributor to happiness or depression in his life.
I’ll say it again: 85 years of study say relationships are the best indicator of happiness. Much more important than money or anything else.
Good relationships keep us happier and more helpful. Relationships in your life either become medicine for your life or poison.
The happiness index shows that India ranked 118th among the unhappiest nations. Even countries like Pakistan and Nepal are far happier than us .
Rank | Country Name | Region | Happiness Score |
92 | NEPAL | ASIA | 5.3 |
109 | PAKISTAN | ASIA | 4.8 |
118 | INDIA | ASIA | 4.4 |
India’s Alarming Divorce Surge in Metros:
Today, the divorce and separation rates are rising drastically in metro cities. As per the report of Adjuva Legal, March 2025, the divorce rates have tripled in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore.
The rate has crossed 30%, which is very concerning because 37% of the Indian population lives in cities. And now they are beating even the Western countries in divorces, and these cities also set a role model for the whole country.
So why are Indian marriages not working like before? And why is there a sudden spike in divorces in cities?
Is Financial Independence Fueling Divorce in Cities?
In my opinion, I may be wrong, but when I look around and come to know about the divorce cases, I find that the biggest factor that is causing a sudden spike in divorces is girls’ financial independence and empowerment in every field.

Note, I said the reason for the divorce spike in cities, not the main reason for divorces. There are many other reasons too; I will explain them below .
But look, data shows that 70 percent of divorces in cities today are filed by Indian females. Close to 65 percent of domestic violence cases are also reported by females at the time of divorce.
Whereas if you look at the average of the whole of India, the best act is only 35 percent. This shows that female empowerment has actually contributed a lot to the sudden spike in divorces.
Liberation vs. Abuse of the Law
But here, of course, there are two types of cases. One that is genuine, in which a girl is able to walk out of a WRONG, ABUSIVE , and TOXIC relationship today.
Basically a girl who earns money herself will not lose her respect for nothing. Girls today are looking for love, not two meals a day, and that is why they are not tolerating it like the old arranged marriages, and even why should they?
In every relationship there should be respect for each other, discipline, and transparency like water.
Real-Life Cases That Shook the Courts
There are other types of cases too in which this empowerment is being openly misused.
One of the examples is.
- Rinku Baheti versus Sandesh Sharda
Here is one real-time story: a girl from UP has married 4 times and divorced 4 times, and she was collecting monthly alimony from all four men. She filed a case of neglect against her husband and maintenance claims under section 125 of the CRPC.
As if it was a great passive income business idea, for which she used to have a luxury life, but later the scam came to light through a private investigation done by one of her husbands.

A similar case happened in Karnataka as well. A lady married 7 times with different men, and now the court case is going on to get the alimony from the seventh husband.
There is one more case, Balijeet Kaur, a woman who m**dered her own husband, Tarsem Singh, and she fought her case from her husband’s pension. Though she was proven guilty.
The Haryana High Court gave a shocking proclamation on 2025 that “no one kills the hen that produces golden eggs” Click to read the statement given by the Haryana High Court .
There are literally thousands of such cases in which females are using the laws given for their own defense as a weapon.
There are other types of cases, such as drastic changes of mentality between husband and wife after decades.
- Hrithik Roshan & Sussanne Khan separated after 14 years.
- Arbaaz Khan & Malaika Arora separated after almost 19 years
- Mary Kom & Karung Onkholer separated after 20 years.
I use celebrities as an example above because they serve as role models for the entire nation.
If A Right Women Cries, Nation Will Cry
But on the other side, one of the data points says that a girl truly empowered by education and with ethics is committed to the right partner, and the divorce rates are low, and they haven’t had to face any violence.
Even a man should not be scared of women’s empowerment, because her education makes her more mature and helps her choose the right partner, where she should not feel regret.
So every man is not the same, and every girl is not the same, and even every relationship is not the same.
If we mistakenly choose the wrong partner, we lose our identity and self-respect, and our entire life will be hell, but with the right partner, you will enjoy every step of your life and will not even know how the decades pass.
We all should know one thing: If A Right Women Cries, Nation Will Cry.
